Celebrations marking Atletico Madrid's King's Cup win turned violent in the early hours of Saturday (May 18) as hundreds of revellers faced off with riot police near Neptuno fountain the Spanish capital.
Atletico's jubilant fans spilled onto the streets of Madrid to celebrate their first victory over their bitter city rivals in 14 years, but scuffles soon broke out after some supporters began hurling bottles and other items at police. A vehicle that had been set on fire could be seen on a street next to the iconic Neptuno fountain. Baton wielding riot police dispersed the large crowds by charging at them, while fire-fighters soon arrived at the scene to extinguish the torched vehicle. Atletico Madrid stunned city rivals Real to win their 10th King's Cup when Miranda's extra-time header secured a 2-1 comeback.
