But at the BFI London Film Festival premiere of the new film which follows one week in the making of Mary Poppins, Ruth told Mail Online that she had the dress (a Dior one to be precise) that looked like it could be worn by one Disney Princess in particular.
'It is a Little Mermaid-like
dress! Joe Wright's doing the [live action version], I should give him a
call!'
Skin tight & out of sight: Ruth Wilson stuns in her tight color-blocked dress and her gravity-defying heels
The British actress remembers this Disney classic in
particular, as her earliest memory of Walt's animations was seeing the
sea-themed flick as a young girl in Staines.
And since then, Ruth has seen her career in film gradually
grow over the years, with starring turns on stage and screen, from playing
Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre to an obsessive stalker in crime series Luther.
While she's been a consistently praised actress for her
work, her move into film she admits has been a slow burner.
'Film's that I wanted to do weren't really coming my way.
And then gradually they came knocking at the door. It's been slow in that way
but that's probably the best way.'
Red carpet appeal: British actress Ruth Wilson
arrive at the BFI London Film Festival Closing Night for a screening of
the movie Saving Mr Banks
Fish tale: Wilson expressed a desire to play the Little Mermaid, commenting how her dress was 'a Little Mermaid-like dress!'
Colin Farrell made a dapper appearance on the red carpet at
Odeon Leicester Square, as he talked about his first really family-friendly
movie.
And clearly he is a fan of children's flicks himself,
referencing Willy Wonka when Mail Online asked if it was a conscious effort to
expand on his film genres: 'Expand? Take him to the de-juicing room! Ah you're
turning violet, Violet!
'No it wasn't really like that. I just read the script and
it was a good read. It was moving and quite irregular, and that stayed with me
and moved me.'
Saving Mr Banks co-stars Colin Farrell and Ruth Wilson share a laugh at the BFI London Film Festival premiere
Tug of war: Ruth Wilson drags Colin Farrell along the red carpet
Lady-like: Farrell shows off his feminine side as Wilson giggles her way through the Saving Mr Banks photocall
One would think that with a young son, this would be a
perfect opportunity to take him to see it, but Colin doesn't seem to think so:
'He won't sit through this, give him a few more years!' The animated movies I've
taken him to see are Hotel Transylvania, Monsters Inc., but the first one I saw
on video was Jungle Book.'
However the hard man known for his action roles in Total
Recall and Miami Vice, admits that it was a little extraterrestrial that had
him sobbing in the cinema as a child.
'E.T. was the first family film I'd seen at the Savoy cinema
in Dublin, I was six or seven, with my Uncle Tommy and I bawled my eyes out!'
Roll call: Colin Farrell, Ruth Wilson and Emma Thompson with Tom Hanks Saving Mr Banks pose for pics
Kick line: The ladies of Saving Mr Banks include lison Owen, Kelly Marcel, Ruth Wilson and Emma Thompson
Now Colin wants to keep up the family tradition of watching
Disney movies.
'We've only started watching all the old school ones, so now I'm
showing my boys Snow White And The Seven Dwarves, 101 Dalmatians, Lady And The
Tramps and all the other ones.'
'There's a lot of fun to be had for what [Walt Disney]
brought into the world.'
