Brits are stockpiling sausage rolls and partying on in the Benidorm sun despite major blackouts across the Iberian peninsular.

The Daily Star has learned that “all the sausage rolls have gone” in the Costa Blanca resort town as panicking Brits go into ‘survival mode.’

Frank the Stag Man, who runs the well-known Miller’s Beach Bar alongside his partner Jade told the Star how revellers were still parked up for beers in the sunshine despite the power cuts.

Outages have spread across Spain and Portugal, affecting some 500 flights due to takeoff from the UK to the two countries today (Monday, April 28). Some reports suggest issues could last a week.

“They’re all in survival mode in Benidorm. The bakeries are going to be doing a lot of business because no restaurants have got any power. Lot of hungry people.”

Ο Φρανκ ο Ελάφι, ο οποίος διευθύνει το γνωστό Miller’s Beach Bar μαζί με τη σύντροφό του Τζέιντ, είπε στην Star πώς οι γλεντζέδες ήταν ακόμα παρκαρισμένοι για μπύρες στον ήλιο παρά τις διακοπές ρεύματος.

Οι διακοπές ρεύματος έχουν εξαπλωθεί σε όλη την Ισπανία και την Πορτογαλία, επηρεάζοντας περίπου 500 πτήσεις λόγω απογείωσης από το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο προς τις δύο χώρες σήμερα (Δευτέρα, 28 Απριλίου). «Όλοι βρίσκονται σε κατάσταση επιβίωσης στο Μπενιντόρμ. Τα αρτοποιεία θα έχουν πολλή δουλειά επειδή κανένα εστιατόριο δεν έχει ρεύμα. Πολλοί πεινασμένοι άνθρωποι.»

He added: “Spirits are still high.”

Grid operators are understood to be scrambling to restore power but on Spain’s east coast, folk are kicking back and enjoying the good weather.

“Ehhh, that’s not going away,” one reveller said while looking up and pointing to the sun in footage obtained from Frank.

“We’re supposed to be going home,” one bloke in Miller’s said with his mates as they sat in the sun. They all had beers on and didn’t seem too worried about the disruption to their journey.

“All’s ok, it’s a bit hectic in a way," Frank told the Star. "We’re very, very busy, bars are full and lots of people about. Obviously there’s no traffic lights, no water, no internet most of the time, no power – which means that a a bar owner we’re sort of limited on the stock, fridges are going to start to go warm… Everyone’s entertaining themselves here.”

Frank added: “Moral’s good, People are happy, people are smiling, they’re getting on with their holidays, they’re not too fazed although people are worried for the simple fact that they might be flying home later and they’re not sure if they’re going to get home or not.”
