Costa Concordia victims remembered Vid.

In solemn silence hundreds of people lit candles and made their way to the port on Giglio island on Sunday evening (January 13) to participate in the final event of a long day of anniversary memorials to mark the Costa Concordia tragedy. One year ago.
the 114,500 tonne ship slammed into the rocks off the Tuscan island. Over 4,200 passengers and crew scrambled for their lives to safety. 32 people were killed. The exact time the Concordia hit the rocks was 2042GMT - and three minutes later at 2045 GMT the ship began taking on water. Islanders, survivors and relatives gathered close together on the port to mark a minute of silence at the time the ship hit the rocks. 32 lanterns were then lit and released into the sky in memory of the 32 people who died in the shipwreck. An eerie silence fell as the lanterns flew past the enormous wreck of the Costa Concordia, still lying on its side off the shoreline.
