News Press TV: Iran to stand by Syria until complete victory over terror: Boroujerdi video
A senior Iranian lawmaker says the Islamic Republic
will stand by Syria until a “complete victory” in the battle against
foreign-backed Takfiri terror groups.
Chairman of the
Iranian Parliament’s (Majlis) National Security and Foreign Policy
Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi made the remarks during a meeting with
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Thursday.
The official arrived in Syria on Wednesday at the head of an Iranian delegation on a two-day visit.
“We
will continue our economic and political support as well as our
[provision of] military advice [to Syria] until the complete victory
over terrorism and its supporters,” Boroujerdi said.
The
Syrian head of state, for his part, expressed gratitude for Tehran’s
“constructive role” in his country’s fight against terrorism, saying the
new anti-terror coalition comprising Iran, Russia, Syria and Iraq would
be “our ace in the hole” during battles against terrorists in the
region.
“Remarkable victories have come about under the auspices
of the new coalition,” he noted, saying, “We will witness further
success in the future.”
Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since 2011, which has claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people so far.

Addressing a
news conference in Damascus, Boroujerdi also touched upon Iran’s
anti-terror policy on Syria and Iraq and said the Islamic Republic has
provided the two countries “with both military aid and advisory
support.”
“It is natural that any other request [by
the countries] has to be examined and decided on in the Islamic
Republic,” added the senior Iranian parliamentarian.
On
the first day of his visit to Damascus, Boroujerdi met with Syrian
Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallim on Wednesday, where he billed the
fourfold Damascus-Tehran-Moscow-Baghdad coalition as a “positive and
successful step.”

The Syrian army’s fight against
terrorists has taken a new turn after Russia started launching separate
airstrikes against Takfiri terrorists in Syria upon a request by
Damascus on September 30.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi
said on October 1 that his country would welcome Moscow’s embarking on
any such military measures on its soil. Russia says it would consider an
airborne operation against Daesh terrorists in Iraq if it receives a
formal request from Baghdad. The Iraqi
premier also said on October 3 that Baghdad was ready to share
intelligence on Daesh with Tehran, Moscow and Damascus upon their
request. Iran, Iraq, Syria and
Russia formed the Baghdad information center in late September as part
of their efforts to fight terrorist organizations operating in the
Middle East, particularly Daesh. On
October 4, Assad said in an interview with the Islamic Republic of Iran
News Network that the coalition of Iran, Russia, Syria and Iraq must
succeed or the entire region will be destroyed. He stressed that all the
four parties, especially Tehran and Moscow, are well-experienced in
combating terrorism.
