Much of northeastern China has been shrouded in heavy smog, forcing the closure of roads, schools and a major airport, and adding to public pressure on Chinese officials to address mounting concerns over air pollution.

"Scaling can take many dimensions, but what's happening within the company is all of a sudden you're now moving to a place where you are reaching more clients. You now are becoming a more dominant player in this new market, and you want to ultimately become number one, two or three in your market," says Scale Venture Partners' Kate Mitchell.
