When it comes to her daily wardrobe, Katie Holmes is not the most exciting of dressers.
So
it came as a nice surprise to see the 34-year-old actress inject some
sex appeal into her look as she stepped out in New York on Thursday.
Instead
of the baggy trousers and masculine tops Katie usually favours, the
mother-of-one wore a pair of tiny black shorts and a sheer blouse.

The
cut of the shorts, which appeared to be suede, highlighted Katie's slim
and toned legs, while the slightly see-through fabric of the star's
spotted long-sleeved top flashed a hint of her bra beneath.
Katie
finished off her ensemble with a pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses,
embellished sandals and a black tote bag, leaving her brunette hair
loose and wavy for the outing.
Appearing in good spirits, Katie was seen smiling and laughing as she enjoyed the day out with a female friend.

Katie's look was in sharp contrast to the outfit she sported earlier in the day, when she headed out in the Chelsea area of Lower Manhattan wearing a flannel shirt, teamed with a pair of loose-fitting jeans.
Not seen with the actress on Thursday was her daughter Suri Cruise, seven, who recently broke her arm.
She was however with her mother the day before on Wednesday, the first time she has been seen since news of her injury emerged.

Katie's daughter with Tom Cruise had her broken limb in a cast
which had been lovingly decorated by her nearest and dearest.
As a popular little girl, Suri's young friends had added their own notes to the cast.
They are sure to responsible for one of the scribbles which rather inexplicably said: ‘No butt smacking with this!’
A spokesperson for Katie confirmed the accident last Friday and told People: 'Suri did break her arm, but she is okay.'
It is not yet known how or where Suri broke her arm.
